  Trail funding applications now available Recreation | (0)

  Amy R. Goodwin, state bicycle and pedestrian coordinator at the Georgia Department of Transportation, reports that recreational trails program funding application is now available online through the Department of Natural Resources Web site. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, Nov. 30. Only one project per sponsor will be eligible for funding.   Registration begins at 7 a.m. Volunteers will work on the McQueen's Island Rail Trail and additional projects at Fort Pulaski from 8 a.m. until noon. Participants will receive a t-shirt. For more information is available here.

  National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy, is scheduled for this Sept 29. Savannah residents have a great opportunity to get involved this Saturday at Fort Pulaski. Join the Coastal Georgia Greenway and other local volunteers to work on an extension of the McQueen's Island Rail Trail east toward the Lazaretto Creek bridge.   Have you ever wondered what's going on with the Coastal Georgia Greenway? Sure, we all have. Now there's a chance to find out. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 21 from 1-3 p.m. at the Bamboo Farm & Coastal Gardens Educational Annex, 2 Canebrake Road (off of US 17) in Savannah. Here's information from a press release: Georgia will move faster in developing its coastal greenway thanks to an effective new regional consultant engaged by the East Coast Greenway Alliance. The goal is to aggregate content about local events and projects, so there will be a central place to review everything that’s happening. The site is aimed at encouraging collaboration and information sharing between groups and individuals currently engaged in sustainability efforts.
